Heru never has never known the warmth of a parental touch ever since those fateful nights in the forest. It was when he was about 5 years when it happened. At such a young age the mind tends to wander, filled with the curiosity and mystifying wonderment of the world around you, and as such so did Heru. Being from a tribe of nomads this behavior is encouraged and supported to teach the child a humble understanding of nature, so when Heru wandered off after supper no one was the wiser. It was when he did not return for nightfall that they began to worry.
Unbeknownst to them, Heru’s curiosity had lead him to a dark dank cave. This cave filled him with a sense of wonderment and passion. He had to know what was inside. So he ventured into that cave, alone in the cold of winter. It was amazing, he thought to himself. The walls were covered with moss and other forms of life. How could a cave be so warm when it was so cold outside, he thought to himself. The farther he ventured the more diverse things became, insects, moths, lizards, snakes, these things filled him with a sense of awe. How could so much life be in such a dark place. And suddenly it seemed that the walls came alive howling with a chill, both in sound and temperature. Heru rushed for the exit only to find that the most terrifying of things had occurred. The mountain came alive and the rocks fell. He was trapped in that cave.
Lucky enough to Heru he had been living in the wild for his entire life and had been taught how to survive if ever separated. He used those skills for the next three days, then something that some people would magical, it could even be fate, the walls came alive and the fey that lied dormant and hidden in that cave came alive. They comforted the child that had been living on his own for the past couple of days and vowed to help him escape from their domain. It was after the help of what seemed to be an elder and wise owlbear that he was able to escape that cave he had called home for the past couple of days.
He searched and searched but found no trace of the pack of tieflings that he called family. He was just about to give up when he saw it, the markings on a tree that he had known to be that his family was near. He began searching frantically, and then it happened, He had found them! They were lying on the ground, the color drawn from their skin, almost to be like mannequins. They were Frozen Solid. It seemed that a artic blizzard had passed those few fateful nights, and his tribe could not find shelter in time, probably feigning to, in order to search for Heru. He was in shock and ran to the only place that he knew to be safe, the cave!
After crawling back through that small opening that the owlbear had made for him, he began calling out to her. Owlbear! owlbear! She appeared as suddenly as the blizzard came. I know child, the raven queen has already come to me. We will raise you as one of our own.
Scadal calls to Heru, and he replies. It is time for you to start your journey go forth and never forget what we have taught you.
